Trump Media commits up to $250M to crypto ETF venture
On April 22, 2025, Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent of Truth Social in which Trump is the largest shareholder, announced a binding agreement with Crypto.com and Yorkville America Digital to launch exchange-traded funds holding digital assets and Made in America securities under its Truth.Fi brand, saying it would invest up to $250 million of its own cash in the products, custodied at Charles Schwab.
What happened
On April 22, 2025, Trump Media announced a binding agreement with Crypto.com and Yorkville America Digital to launch exchange-traded funds under its Truth.Fi brand. It followed a non-binding deal in March. The funds were to hold digital assets and Made in America securities, be sold through Crypto.com’s broker-dealer, and launch later in 2025. Trump Media said it would put up to $250 million of its own cash into the products, held at Charles Schwab.
The crypto funds never appeared. On December 30, 2025, Yorkville listed five Truth Social equity ETFs on the NYSE, tracking indexes of defense, energy, “American icons” and red-state real estate stocks. It said digital-asset funds would follow in 2026.
On August 7, 2026, Crypto.com, Trump Media and Yorkville told the SEC they had mutually terminated both a proposed CRO crypto-treasury merger and the ETF servicing partnership, citing market conditions. Trump Media’s filings do not say how much of the $250 million was ever invested, so no amount is carried for this record.
Who benefited
Yorkville America gained the Truth Social brand for five small equity ETFs. Trump Media, through its stake, benefits if the funds draw assets. Crypto.com’s role ended with the August 2026 termination. No payment to the Trump family is recorded here.
Who wanted something
Crypto.com and Yorkville America Digital wanted the partnership. The record does not show specific business they had before the government. They operate in a market whose rules are set by the SEC under Trump, which has dropped enforcement actions and loosened its approach to crypto since he took office.
Who lost out
No public money is involved. The exposure falls on Trump Media’s shareholders, whose company was moving hundreds of millions of dollars from a social-media business into crypto products. The market is regulated by appointees of its chief shareholder.
Why it matters
The president’s media company announced a $250 million crypto-fund commitment in a market his appointees regulate, and the market moved on the news. The crypto funds were never launched and the partnership was dissolved 16 months later. The record stands as an announcement, not a transaction.
