Trump Media and Crypto.com announce a $6.4B CRO token treasury
On August 26, 2025, Trump Media & Technology Group, majority-owned by Trump through a trust, announced with Crypto.com and a Yorkville Acquisition SPAC a new company, “Trump Media Group CRO Strategy,” to hold Crypto.com’s Cronos (CRO) token: about $1 billion in CRO, $200 million in cash, $220 million in warrants and a $5 billion equity line from a Yorkville affiliate, for a stated $6.4 billion.
What happened
Trump Media & Technology Group runs Truth Social and is majority-owned by Trump through a trust his son administers. In 2025 it began converting itself into a holder of cryptocurrency. On August 26, 2025, it announced a deal with Crypto.com, one of the largest exchanges, and a blank-check company run by Yorkville Acquisition.
The deal created Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, a new vehicle that would hold Crypto.com’s own token, Cronos. The stated size was $6.4 billion: about $1 billion in CRO tokens, $200 million in cash, $220 million in warrants and a $5 billion line of credit under which a Yorkville affiliate would buy new shares over time.
Trump Media bought about $105 million of CRO, and Crypto.com bought $50 million of Trump Media stock. CRO’s price rose about 66% that day. Crypto.com’s SEC investigation had been dropped five months earlier. It later gave $35 million to Trump’s super PAC and became the operator of Truth Social’s planned prediction market.
Who benefited
Crypto.com saw its token’s value jump by two-thirds on the president’s company’s endorsement. Trump Media got a $50 million investment and a new line of business. Trump, as the controlling shareholder of Trump Media, benefits from both.
Who wanted something
Crypto.com had just escaped an SEC case and wanted a durable relationship with the president’s company. Trump Media’s social network loses money and its stock price depends on announcements like this one. The vehicle’s stated size was $6.4 billion.
Who lost out
Retail holders who bought CRO after the 66% jump and before it fell back lost out. So did anyone relying on the SEC to police a token whose issuer now has the president’s company as a partner and the president’s PAC as a beneficiary.
Why it matters
The president’s company announced a deal with a regulated exchange, the exchange’s token spiked, and the exchange then gave $35 million to his political fund. The record’s bitcoin-treasury entry was the start; this is the larger deal, with the clearer loop.
