What happened

On August 26, 2026, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Autistici Inventati, Palestine Action and Masar Badil under Executive Order 13224, the counterterrorism sanctions authority, and blocked all of their property in the United States. Two Masar Badil leaders, Rawa Alsagheer and Zaid Abdulnasser, were designated with it.

Autistici Inventati is an Italian collective that provides web hosting, encrypted email and the Noblogs platform to anti-fascist groups, which Treasury said included the PKK. Palestine Action is a British protest group that the U.K. proscribed in July 2025. Treasury called Masar Badil a front for the Samidoun network and the PFLP.

Treasury said the action builds on the State Department’s November 13, 2025 designation of four antifa groups and on the July 2026 ministerial on political terrorism. U.S. persons are barred from dealing with the designees. Secretary Scott Bessent said far-left extremists and their enablers should be on notice, and Treasury said it does not sanction protected speech.

Who benefited

The administration got its first Treasury sanctions aimed at the anti-fascist and Palestine-solidarity ecosystem. The action extends NSPM-7’s financial strategy abroad. Designating a hosting provider gives the government leverage over digital infrastructure used by activist groups worldwide.

Who wanted something

Bessent had promised at the July 16 ministerial to turn Treasury’s counterterrorism-finance tools on far-left networks and the nonprofits behind them. NSPM-7 directed Treasury to identify and disrupt the financial networks that fund political violence, and the State Department’s antifa designations set the precedent.

Who lost out

Activists and journalists who rely on Autistici Inventati’s email and blogging services, most with no connection to violence, risk losing access as banks and platforms cut ties. U.S. supporters of Palestine Action and Masar Badil face criminal exposure for material support.

Why it matters

E.O. 13224 was written for al-Qaeda, and it now reaches a European tech collective and a British protest group. It operates under a strategy that treats anti-fascism as an indicator of terrorism. The financial consequences can be extended to domestic allies of the same groups.
