SEC pauses fraud case against Trump-linked investor Justin Sun
The SEC, Justin Sun and the Tron Foundation jointly asked a federal court on February 26, 2025 to pause the SEC's fraud case, citing a potential resolution.
What happened
The 2023 SEC suit alleged Sun and his companies engaged in market manipulation, fraud and unregistered securities sales; the parties moved to stay it in February 2025. Sun is an adviser to and major backer of the Trump-affiliated World Liberty Financial, having bought $30M of WLFI tokens and later raising his reported stake to about $75M. Those figures are money into the Trump-linked venture, not a payment counted as personal Trump-family income here.
Why it matters
The SEC paused its 2023 fraud suit against crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun, a major World Liberty backer who bought roughly $75M in the family's tokens. An enforcement pause benefiting a large financial supporter of the president's venture raises the appearance that regulatory leniency followed private payments.
