GEO Group wins expanded no-bid ICE detention contracts after donations
GEO Group, ICE's second-largest contractor, was awarded new no-bid detention contracts and modifications in 2025 after donating to Trump's political operation.
What happened
Per POGO/IRW analysis of USAspending data, GEO Group's direct ICE obligations were about $710M in the year after Trump's inauguration (roughly flat year-over-year), but the company secured new no-bid contracts and facility-activation modifications executives said would add hundreds of millions in annual revenue. GEO's executives, PAC and a subsidiary gave over $1M to Trump's 2024 campaign and $500,000 to the inauguration committee. Public-cost figure, not money to the Trump family.
Why it matters
Private-prison firm GEO Group won no-bid ICE contracts worth roughly $710M after giving more than $1M to the campaign and $500K to the inauguration. No-bid awards following large political gifts raise pay-to-play concerns.
