What happened

Why it matters
Replacing the JAGs is the tell. They are the officers who can tell a president that an order, such as putting troops on American streets, is illegal. Replacing them with the president's picks before a disputed election would remove the internal legal brake on using the military at home—the darkest scenario around November and its aftermath.
