What happened

The Office of Personnel Management published the final "Schedule Policy/Career" rule—the revived Schedule F—clearing the legal path to strip job protections from career civil servants. It took effect March 9, 2026 and set up the June order that began moving employees into at-will status.

Why it matters

The dry regulation that makes every later purge legal. Alone it reads as bureaucratic housekeeping; in fact it creates the legal capacity to replace protected civil servants with presidentially selected employees, in an election year. It turns “we would like to fire the people who say no” into “we can.”
