Trump signs Executive Order 14418, directing that no federal agency issue documents recognizing United States citizenship—or accept state or local documents recognizing it—for enumerated categories of U.S.-born children the order places outside the Supreme Court's birthright-citizenship rule, including children of designated “alien enemies.”
What happened
The order bars agencies from issuing or accepting citizenship-recognizing documents where neither parent is a citizen and an enumerated category applies: children of designated Foreign Terrorist Organization members or Specially Designated Global Terrorists, births tied to a commercial transaction to purchase or access birthright citizenship, and births in territories where citizenship is not conferred by federal statute. The order describes its categories as non-exhaustive.
