Trump signs Executive Order 14419, “Ending Birth Tourism,” directing agencies to deny or revoke visas, permanently bar entry, and remove foreign nationals determined to be entering the United States to give birth.
What happened
The order authorizes action to prevent entry or deny any visa to aliens entering for the purpose of engaging in birth tourism, to revoke visas and permanently bar entry of those who enter or attempt to enter for that purpose, to deny entry to or remove aliens who previously engaged or plan to engage in it, and to act against entities facilitating it, within or outside the United States.
Why it matters
Policing entry by predicted birth intent moves the citizenship fight to the consular window and the checkpoint: acquiring birthright citizenship becomes something visa officers are directed to prevent in advance.
